Charlie's Tree Safari at Ballard Park

Friends of Ballard Park will host “Charlie’s Tree Safari” on Saturday, March 29 from 10-11am.  City of Newport’s Forester Charlie Ridolf and Friends of Ballard Park’s educator Jaclyn Lewandowski will lead a hike through the thirteen acre nature preserve stopping along the way to point out various species of trees and ways one can identify them by examining their leaves and bark.  Charlie and Jackie will also share techniques used to measure tree height and age.

Ballard Park is located on the corner of Hazard and Wickham roads.  Hikers should meet at the Hazard Road entrance.  Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes as trails are uneven and steep in areas.

There is a suggested donation of $5 per person and $15 per group.  Reservations may be made by emailing education@ballardpark.org but drop-ins are welcome.  In the event of inclement weather, the hike will be held on Saturday, April 5.  Visit ballardpark.org or call 401-619-3377 for more information.
