“Lyle last graced our stage in 2004 to a near sell-out crowd and it’s taken eight years for his routing schedule and our open dates to match up again,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center.  “We are thrilled to bring his version of country - with a little folk, blues, jazz and gospel mixed in - to the waterfront in downtown Newport.”

One of the most distinctive and original singer-songwriters to emerge during the 1980s, Texas-born Lyle Lovett was originally labeled a country singer.  However, the tag has never completely fit as he has received critical acclaim for his incisive, witty lyrical detail with an eclectic array of music, ranging from country and folk to big band and traditional pop.  The winner of four Grammy Awards, including “Best Country Album” in 1996 for The Road to Ensenada, Lovett has had six of his fourteen albums go “Gold” and sold more than four million records.  His album, It’s Not Big It’s Large, was released in 2007 where it debuted and peaked at #2 on the Top County Albums chart.

Esquire magazine sums up Lovett best, “The secret of Lyle Lovett comes down to the three C’s: class, charisma and consistency.  In the studio and on stage, he’s spent two decades gracefully matching genuine songcraft with A-List musicianship.”

Lovett has also made his mark in Hollywood with his appearance in twelve feature films, including The Player, Short Cuts and Cookie's Fortune, as well as several television shows Mad About You, Dharma and Greg and Brothers and Sisters.  His music credits in Hollywood include True Blood, Stuart Little, Toy Story, Quiz Show, The Firm, The Crying Game and Major League.   Lovett recently contributed a cover of Buddy Holly’s “Well…All Right” for the tribute album, Listen to Me: Buddy Holly and has released two albums of his own entitled, Natural Forces and Release Me.
