  • Newport police reported that they only had to tow a record low number of cars due to the snowstorm Thursday night. Parking Ban was lifted at 12 p.m. on Friday
  • It is a city ordinance to clear the sidewalk off in front of your home. 

School Cancellations


Thursday, Jan 2
  • Met School - No PM activities, extended day canceled 
  • Newport Public Schools -activities canceled; no afternoon activities
  • Middletown Public Schools -activities canceled; no afternoon activities
Friday, Jan. 3
  • All Saints Academy -  no school 
  • Cluny School -  no school
  • The Met - no school
  • Newport Naval War College - closed through Friday, mission essential only
  • Naval Health Clinic- closed 
  • Newport Public Schools -closed
  • Middletown Public Schools - closed

Parking Ban

  • Newport police have issued a parking ban in Newport beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday. Gateway Center and Easton's Beach parking lots are available to residents. It will be lifted at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.  
  • Middletown police have issued a parking ban for the Town of Middletown. 

Trash Collection


Trash collection in Newport will be delayed due to the holiday and the snow storm.  See the new schedule here

Other Closures 

  • Cluny School -  no school 
  • Save the Bay Newport - closed Thursday, seal tours and exploration center
  • CODAC - Newport - closed Friday 
  • SWOS - closed through Friday
  • Skate Newport - closed Thursday
  • Peoples Credit Union, located at 858 W Main Rd will open at noon on Friday
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport City - Close at 2 p.m. Thursday, Swim Team is on; No Friday adult swim.

Snow Removal for Seniors


Child & Family will assist elders (60+ and living in Newport) with snow removal.
