There was no trash collection on Monday because of the Memorial Day holiday and that means collection for the rest of this week will be delayed by one day.

As a reminder, yard waste will be collected during the weeks of June 2 and 16 on residents’ regular collection day. Yard waste is collected every other week in the spring, summer and early fall months.

Yard waste includes leaves, grass, plant clippings, and small sticks and branches.  Branches larger than 4" in diameter must be less than 3 feet long and either in trash cans or tied in reasonably sized bundles.

Yard waste will only be collected in brown paper leaf bags or loose in trash barrels labeled “yard waste”. Yard waste will not be collected in plastic bags.  Free yard waste stickers are available to residents through the Clean City Program, located in the back entrance of the Public Services garage in the city yard, 80 Halsey St. and City Hall in the Collections office.

The 2014 recycling & solid waste calendar is available to download at www.cityofnewport.com/cleancity. Hard copies are available at the Clean City Program office at 80 Halsey St in the city yard, and also in the Collections Office in City Hall, 43 Broadway.

For more information about the City of Newport residential solid waste and recycling collection program, contact the Clean City Program at 845-5613 or visit the above website.
