Newport Night Run Tonight — Expect Road Closures

The Newport Night Run is being held tonight and police will be enforcing no-parking rules along the route.

The race starts at Easton's Beach at 7 p.m. and runners will head east on Memorial Boulevard. One lane will be coned for runners and cars will still be allowed on the Boulevard.

The race continues onto America's Cup Avenue and one lane will remain open there. Runners will then turn around at Long Wharf and head south on America's Cup Avenue continuing to Memorial Boulevard westbound back to the beach.

No parking will be permitted on Memorial Boulevard along the route. Detail officers will potentially be stopping traffic at cross streets along the route.

Despite the traffic changes, police expect minimal traffic delays because of the race.

It's the first time the Newport Night Run is being held and it's a part of Newport Winterfest.

The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Newport Public Education Foundation and replaces the annual Mother's Day Run that had been running for the past 10 years.
