New Drop-Off Zones for Motorcoach Passengers

Seven new signs have been placed in various high-traffic areas to designate zones for motorcoach vehicles to drop off and pick-up passengers.

In an effort to ease traffic around the busiest areas of Newport and offer an added safety measure for motorcoach passengers, Discover Newport has instituted new “drop-off zones” marked by signage around the city.

Seven signs have been placed in various high-traffic areas to designate zones for motorcoach vehicles to drop off and pick-up passengers.

“This has been a longtime in the making but it’s been well worth the wait,” said Tourism Sales Manager Alex Hurd. “Through the years, group tour operators have inquired about the best places to drop off passengers, but not every motorcoach driver is familiar with Newport. With our narrow streets, it can be hazardous to passengers, vehicle drivers and pedestrians for a motorcoach driver to choose an area at random. Plus, many streets are blocked off to commercial buses or trucks. Since providing the new signage, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Motorcoach parking is conveniently located in areas surrounding these drop-off zones away from Newport’s busy streets.
