Easton's Beach will open this weekend right on schedule, but a key part of the landscape will be missing after a fire ripped through one of the bath houses on Monday.

Fire officials on Tuesday were still working on finding a cause for the fire, which was fueled by high winds and the structure itself — a wood framed elevated building with shingles and an open second floor. And the bath house that was destroyed is part of a row of similar structures.

"It couldn't be a better recipe for a fire," said Newport Fire Captain Paul Faerber.

Firefighters managed to limit damage to one bath house, which housed public restrooms. And nobody was hurt.

Those factors earned accolades for the Fire Department, who battled the blaze for about 40 minutes before it was fully extinguished.

Stay tuned for more updates on the fire and the city's plans to rebuild.
