Alex and Ani Founder Seeks EDC Grant for Belcourt Castle

Carolyn Rafaelian is seeking a $18,500 grant from the RI Economic Development Corporation.

Alex and Ani founder Carolyn Rafaelian is seeking a grant from the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation for Belcourt Castle, according to Rhode Island Public Radio.

The grant of $18,500 would go towards a solar array and a geothermal heating and cooling system. The grant would come from the RIEDC Renewable Energy Fund.

The fund is dedicated to "increasing the role of renewable energy with business development and energy supply in Rhode Island's electric grid," according to the EDC website.

At the last board meeting, Rhode Island College president Nancy Carriuolo recused, who cited Alex and Ani’s recent $1 million gift for a new building.

The EDC will consider the grant request at its meeting this month.
