For Immediate Release:
Church Community Housing Corporation, a non-profit housing and community development organization with a 44-year history of serving Newport County, is offering homebuyer education. The next series begins in Newport on Wednesday, September 11, meeting every other week for eight sessions, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
Homebuyer Training educates people in the many steps involved in the home buying process. Purchasing a home is the largest financial transaction most people ever make and is one of the best ways for a family to build wealth. A well-informed consumer plans and makes good decisions.
The content of the eight training sessions includes determining individual affordability, comparing renting to owning, saving money, improving credit, obtaining a mortgage, and learning about land trusts, affordable homeownership options and available downpayment assistance programs. Additionally, in one-on-one meetings with the instructor, each participant creates a spending plan, reviews credit and credit scores and develops an action plan.
A Homebuyer Education Certificate is presented to participants who successfully meet all program requirements. This certificate is accepted by Rhode Island Housing and area banks with programs requiring homebuyer education. The cost for the entire course is $50 per household, plus a $14 per person credit report fee that generates two credit scores.
