Two Men Allegedly Stole Bikes From Homes

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Two men were arrested Tuesday around 3 a.m. after police said they stole bikes from a home on Lucas Avenue.

Durell Parker, 27, of 143 Third Street Apt #8H  and William Morales, 23, of 143 Third St. Apt. #8H, were charged with larceny under $1500. Police stopped the men on Thames because they were riding in the rain and wearing black hooded sweatshirts. Parker allegedly said “I’m going for a bike ride with my friend. Police asked his friend’s name and he allegedly said, “I only know him as Winky.” Police asked him how much he paid for the bike and he said “my friend gave me the bike.” Police said due to the number of bike thefts, Parker was detained. Morales allegedly admitted they took the bike from a house on Lucas Avenue. Parker allegedly agreed police treated them fairly and said “thank you for your kindness” as they were read their rights. They were both charged with larceny under $1500.
