Learning that only seven people are running for the Newport School Committee's seven slots, I have mixed feelings about the process. While it's good to know that I'll have the great opportunity to serve a third 2-year term, I find it a bit troubling that more Newport voters did not come forward to take a chance. However, it is, and will continue to be, a privilege to serve the people of Newport.
With all this in mind, I hope to meet many folks during the election season as I help other candidates. During that time, conversation about education--whether K-12 on the local level or major issues that affect our young people's future as contributing citizens--is most welcome.
Meanwhile, we will be gathering signatures from July 3-13 from registered Newport voters so that we may be entered onto the ballot on Election Day. I hope to chat with you!
