Newport Bicycle Gets a Colorful Paint Job

Artist Reva Golden completed the mural at Newport Bicycle over the weekend.

Have you noticed that Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard is a lot more colorful lately? Artist Reva Golden — recently moved back to Boulder, CO., after completing the work — completed a mural on the street-side wall of Newport Bicycle last Sunday, owner Christina Erwin said. The mural depicts the best of both bicycling and Newport, including a bicyclist, the Newport Bridge, waves and the Route 138 sign. Golden's artwork was completed just in time to inspire the community to participate in Bike Newport’s second annual Bike to Work Day, taking place all day on Friday, May 18.

Newport Lawyer Debuts Radio Show this Saturday

Kevin Hagan's Law Talk debuts this Saturday morning on WADK 1540.

Newport lawyer Kevin Hagan is about to hit the airwaves. Hagan’s new half-hour talk radio show, Law Talk, debuts this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on WADK 1540 AM. His show will focus on constitutional law and current events issues like healthcare reform, immigration and how law affects society, especially Newport County, he said. “I’m going to talk about local issues that affect Newport in terms of cases that come up,” he said, adding he will discuss high-profile local criminal, zoning and civil cases. OnTheLine: Extreme Sailing filmed interviews with its actors at O’Brien’s Pub for the “loosely scripted” series based on a fictional production crew documenting extreme sailing around the world. Arts & Cultural Alliance Receives Arts in Tourism Award

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) awarded its second annual Arts in Tourism Award to the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County at the recent Tourism Unity Luncheon in Warwick.

In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week in Rhode Island, The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) awarded its second annual Arts in Tourism Award to the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County at the recent Tourism Unity Luncheon in Warwick. Seth Meyers, Jim Breur and Bob Marley will be at the Newport Yachting Center this summer.

The 2012 Newport Summer Comedy Series lineup of comedy performers has become even more impressive with the announcement of three new shows starring three hilarious comedians all making their Newport debuts. Seth Meyers, Jim Breuer and Bob Marley are all headed to the Newport Yachting Center. Seth Meyers appears on the Newport waterfront July 20th. Meyers is best known for his work as anchor of “Weekend Update” on NBC’s Emmy Award-winning, “Saturday Night Live” where he is also head writer. Last Chance: newportFILM Presents May Mini-Fest

Get your tickets for this weekend's mini-fest.

This week is your last chance to grab tickets to newportFILM’s May mini-fest at the Jane Pickens Theater. The weekend of film runs Friday and Saturday night with screenings for all ages. Friday begins with a pre-release screening of Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present at 7 p.m. followed by a Q&A with producer Marcus Ricci. For the kids, A Cat in Paris will play on Saturday  at 1 p.m. The film  was nominated for a 2012 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The Potter League has also partnered with newportFILM  with a pre-release screening of Quill: The Life of a Guide Dog, screening at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The 31st Annual Chowder Cook-Off is looking for Stuffed Quahog Recipe Contest entries.

David Cassidy will headline the Sunset Music Series stage on July 21.
