My 9 year old, Cranston-Calvert 4th grader, Mac, addressed the Newport City Council last eveing. He spoke in support of the gun control resolution, it passed 7-0! The council should be applauded for bringing this important conversation to the floor. Let this grass-root effort spread nation-wide. It is time to enact sensible gun control laws!

this is a letter to editor, i cant beleive what i saw on the news tonight, a former state trooper molested a child and received a 90 day jail sentance and 200 hours of comm. service. this is justice ? if i did the same discusting crime i would problay receive 15 years in prison and 1000 hours of comm. service plus a preditor record all this tells me is the state government is as corrupt as the federal government. the moral of this story is if your going to be a child molester and you get caught it helps alot to have a police back ground, how pathetic

What it tells me is that this world is a very twisted place!
And its not ",what you know"it's who you know and there are government, state, private oficials and none officials who get away with murder so to speak every day just because they are driving a grey ltd with red lights on them.
Thats not to say that all cops are bad because there not.Its the persons reasoning skills and how their wired and some people that have these high preasured ,high ranking, high profile jobs should not pass these psyhological test and should be screened a hell of alot better.I you were to through that cop in a regular ACI they would tear him apart. Its to bad this world has come to all this evil intent exspecially when it gives all the good cops a bad rap!

The meeting held at the Jane Pickens Theater was a large gathering of local citizens letting the City officials we the people have an deserve a input on the way the future of Newport is conceived and planed.I myself once again brought up the dire need of parking towers to be placed accordingly with a new one located by the one already erected next to the visitor center and one at the Mary Street parking lot.I also let it be known we don't need another park at the fork on Spring St. There is a well on the grounds at the location of the gas station,we could buy only the gas station section and put a beautiful water fountain there and have it encircled with a round about. This would be very eye apealing and would not have the safty factors the park would create in the middle of two closely traveled roads. It would also leave the ajoining property for business.

Might not be brilliant but much better then putting a park in the middle of two very busy roads. We should make better use of the parks we already have like up-grading with restrooms,skate-board park incorporated into one of the existing parks.
NOT partnering-up on what will become another debacle and safty issue for the city to have to contend with? After all the last time I checked we can not afford to taxable business property off the books let alone to do something like this Please!

Newport needs a new park like a hole in the head after all "Least we forget" the city just let our most beautiful Park "Queen Anne Square' park be destroyed?

The council seem's to be hell-bent on giving public land, dock's,park's and sidewalk's away and sometime's to the highest bidder's "Least they forget" Public parks, right of ways and public docks first and foremost mean they belong to the tax- payer's of Newport the town council as part of there duties to it's citizen's is to preserve and protect the public land's and such. It's very unsetting to see a group think they should do whatever they deem good for the taxpayer's of Newport. The council and new city manager seem to have lost sight of the good citizen's who hired them even to go as far as to vote against the the people a put there own Mayor in place not the person the people voted for? What have we let this group create a dictatorship?

So much for protecting our beautiful trees..Seems like our tree commissioner has become the tree bucher.I thought it was against newport ordences to cut down living trees?Look no farther then Queen Anne Square the buchery of our beautiful trees for what eyes sores in the ground they are calling art?Now cutting down are mosted prized trees that were imported here and planted through-out our city, look no farther then the park outside Newport public library the tree of the year a year ago has cut down this week most likly it would of lived another 40-69 years with alittle pruning.

On March 29th while sitting on the bench, a man from the city, truck no. 40 was raking the glass area. He was doing a very good job. Looks nice. The city has really fixed up the area. We of course would like to see it stay that way. They have the Farmer's Market in this area coming soon. The only problem some people not pick up after their dog. They may need to post signs to pick up after the dogs. They do have doggy bags but there should fines for those not picking up. No one wants to have to face this problem. There must be something the city can come up with.
