Women Arrested After Hit and Run, Alleged BAC .28%

The following incident was reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

A Newport woman was arrested around 6:05 p.m. Wednesday after she allegedly hit two cars and fled the scene. Ingrid Pena-Tejada, 48, of 143 Third Street, Apt #4F, was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident of an attended vehicle and for an open container. No injuries were reported.

Police said she registered a .278  and .277 on Breathalyzer tests, which is over three times the legal limit

Two drivers told police they were rear-ended while stopped at the intersection of America’s Cup Avenue and Farewell Street. One of the victims said the driver was "clearly drunk" and swerving in and out of the yellow lanes.  

Police found the car that matched the description in front of Starbucks.  Police said Pena-Tejada was almost incoherent and her pants were soaked in urine.

An open bottle of vodka was found in her car, according to police.
