Woman Stuck on Train Tracks Charged with DUI
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Mary Butler, 53, of 103 Woodville Alton Rd., Hopkinton, was arrested around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, for a DUI charge and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
Police were dispatched to the train tracks near Admiral Kalbfus road for a report of a vehicle stuck on the tracks.
Butler told police she had accidentally driven her car onto the tracks, thinking it was the parking lot for Mama Leone's. She said she was trying to pull into the parking lot and mistook the train tracks for the entrance.
When asked why she wanted to park there, she said she wanted to walk on to the Navy Base, where her boat was located. She reportedly told police she could not drive on to the base because she had had too much to drink.
She refused to take the chemical test.
The above reports detail arrests made by the Newport Police Department. Descriptions of all events are based solely on police officer reports provided to Patch.
