Where Are Newport's Most Ignored Stop Signs?

Stop signs are not optional, but they're sometimes treated as if they are.

There are hundreds of stop signs in Newport, but all too often, they are overlooked when drivers are in a rush.

We have all seen it and probably many would admit of a stop sign roll-through at one point in time.

Do you know of a location where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored?

Share where it is in the comments section, below.

We've received several comments on our Facebook page. Here's a couple:

Connie Welles: when the stop light was change to a stop sign at the viking hotel

Dave Rogers: easy one... Washington Square and Broadway, heading into the square. Just go sit at the Fastnet and watch it sometime. indy 500.

The STOP signs that are ignored around the city are too numerous to mention. One of the biggest problems is at the top of Morton Ave at the corner of Coggeshall where there is no STOP sign for traffic traveling east on Morton Ave. And yet, invariably, traffic stops, thereby confounding the flow and confusing drivers traveling north on Coggeshall where there is a STOP sign. It might be considered to put a sign on the stone wall at the top of Morton Ave. stating - GO! or "proceed cautiously" with a large, green arrow pointing left.

How about the ones on Coggeshall Ave? We live there and always see people going through them or just a quick rolling stop. Also on Annandale. The Morton and Coggeshall one should be a three way stop.

That would be great in the snow....you think traffic is backed up now wait until they get stuck on the snow and ice

I disagree about the Morton Ave stop sign.
If it were a three way stop there would be more accidents and people would run it just like the one at Narragansett and Spring.

Marlborough & Farewell, I won't even drive through that intersection anymore. For some reason people just can't seem to figure out how a 3 way STOP works....

How about lets track the amount of accidents/speeding track. We did petition for a stop sign several years ago and were denied! I am talking about Malbone Road. Numerous accidents per year related to speeding and darkness! I have lived here for 15 yrs. and my property/house has been hit on numerous occasions never mind the amount of times the fence to the Malbone Estate has been wpied out The last time I had a car on my front lawn with sig. damage was this past Feb! Complete negligence yet AGAIN!!!! How about a REFLECTIVE SLOW DOWN BAD CURVE SIGN, CLEAN AND PUT NEW BULBS IN THE STREET LIGHTS and ADD MORE LIGHTS, Maybe some guardrails? The street is in complete darkness, the cars race on it like it is a Nascar track, and now freshly paved, which makes them go even faster! Speed traps????? Where are Newport's Finest?? Not here dishing out speeding tickets! They could make the quota in one day! There are no sidewalks at this part , so there is alot of foot traffic walking in the road from the Hill to Broadway back and forth; kids, parents with baby carriages, etc. What is wrong with this picture?? This is one of the most traveled roads because of it's cut-through from the Bridge, Hill, etc. to Broadway or the Hospital for ex. Why does it need to continue over the years to be such a hazaardous road? It is really not that difficult to protect our citizens and our properties! POST AN OFFICER, PUT UP MULTIPLE SIGNS, FIX THE STREET LIGHTS AND ADD MORE!!! PLEASE HELP!

The one at Spring and Mill Street. From the comments it looks like just about every stop sign in Newport is ignored.

By far it has to be RI Ave and Champlin St. It's a three way stop and everyone on RI Ave just rolls through, some without even slowing down!

Just to the left of your gas pedel is another pedel when you step on it the car comes to a stop. I use mine all the time and never have a problem with stop signs and red lights. If you can't figure that out get off the road.
