Visions for Vacancies: Metro PCS
If you could fill the space, what would you like it to be?
Metro PCS, a cell phone service service provider, has packed up and left its Broadway location vacant.
The store, located across from City Hall at 70 Broadway, is now for lease.
Broadway is in the midst of being revitalized and has seen several new businesses spring up recently, including Malt and Bistro 162.
What do you think should go here? Leave your suggestions in the comments.
About this column: We'll periodically post a picture of a empty storefront or vacant building around Newport. It's up to you to tell us what should be there!

I'd like to see it turned into an art space: a gallery, studio or other space for exploring creativity.

Depressing to see so many empty store fronts on Broadway. I remember when I was growing up how there were so many businesses that could be found on Broadway, They included all types of restaurants and lounges, a donut shop, a music store, hardware store, furniture store, liquor store, laundry/dry cleaners, drug store, and even a regular grocery store.

We could fix that if we really wanted to. However, it means moving the homeless shelter and changing the way it is run. Let me know when you want to do that.

FYI...just want to take a moment to point out that the above posts by "Rick McGowan" are not in fact Rick McGowan! Someone has created a profile of Rick and is using his identity to posts their juvenile comments along with a bogus invite to all of Newport for a brunch tomorrow. Who ever you are...get a life...of your own! Leave Rick's alone. There is nothing funny or cool about using someones name to make desparaging comments about people and businesses.
