Underwood Students Raise Thousands to Fight Leukemia

Students pooled their change and raised more than $2,000 for Pennies for Patients.

Students at raised $2,027.62 in spare change from family and friends during the 18th annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser.

The Rhode Island Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in partnership with Brinks, Domino’s Pizza, Garda, and Loomis, sponsored a national coin drive to raise funds for blood cancer research and patient services. For three weeks, students brought in spare change to school to fight the most fatal disease of children ages one 20: leukemia.

The top fundraising classroom of each school receives a reward lunch courtesy of Domino’s, and the top five fundraising schools receive a special reward.

Last year, 194 Rhode Island schools generously raised over $299,000. Seventy-six percent of all funds raised go toward life-saving blood cancer research and patient aid. By pooling their coins, healthy children had a chance to learn about and help children struggling with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin disease, and myeloma.

Thank you to all who generously donated to our school!
