Things to Do This Weekend in Newport

With the weather taking a colder turn, here are a few options for this weekend that will keep you indoors and away from the rapidly lowering temperatures. 

Shop and Unwind

Thanksgiving is over, so relax! Head down to Green Envy Eco-Boutiqe at 223 Goddard Row this Saturday to "Shop and Unwind" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The environmentally friendly shop offers green and fair trade gifts, a complementary Reflexology or Reiki treatment and discounts store-wide. Grab a few gifts while you're there, several items are under $25.

Laugh Out Loud With The Bit Players

Looking for a laugh? Head over to the Firehouse Theater this Saturday at 8 p.m. for The Bit Players, who were voted Rhode Island's Best Comedy Troupe by Motif magazine. Watch the players think on their feet during games, skits and if you're on the adventurous side, join in! The event is BYOB, call ahead for reservations at 401-849-FIRE (3473).

The Nutcracker at Rosecliff

Visions of sugar plum fairies will dance across the stage at Rosecliff mansion this weekend for the Island Company's production of The Nutcracker. Saturday's and Sunday's performances will be at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The second Saturday show will be a gala fundraiser with a reception to follow. Tickets are $75 for the Golden Circle, $60 for Silver seating, and $35 for child pillow seating for children ten and under. Call 401-847-4470 for more information. Performances will continue until Dec. 3.

Portsmouth Pottery Open House

Join Lark Roderigues this weekend for an exhibit of her handmade and sculptured pottery and glass beaded jewelry. The Portsmouth native had been crafting these works of art for over three decades and has been featured in several national magazines, galleries and museums. The open house is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Irish Music Session

The Fastnet Pub will host it's fourth anniversary of their weekly Irish music session this Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. Meet up with friends for a night of food, music and drinks for area's longest running Irish "session."
