The Weekend Guide: Peter Liotta Memorial, Polo, 'Chasing Ice'

Here's a look at what's going on around Newport this weekend.

 
  1. Salve Regina University will hold a Memorial Service for Dr. Peter H. Liotta at 12 p.m. today. All are welcome to attend.
  2. The Sixth Annual Doris Duke Historic Preservation Awards will begin at 6 p.m. tonight at Rough Point. Tickets are $135.
  3. newportFILM presents its final outdoor film event of the summer, Chasing Ice, on Rose Island. The film begins at 7:15 p.m. tonight
  4. Fall Secret Garden Tours will run through this weekend at Kingscote. The tours feature a dozen properties, including three new properties. Get a sneak preview here: http://www.youtube.com/secretgardentours
  5. Newport International Polo will face Honolulu during its Saturday City Series match. The match begins at 4 p.m.

I had Dr. Liotta as a professor at Salve Regina this past year. I can undoubtedly say he was by far the best professor I had while attending Salve. Such an all around great person, with so many different life experiences and lessons to share. I am still very upset that he is no longer with us, he was taken from us way too soon. Rest Peacefully Dr. Liotta,
