Lets not panic and overreact as always.....the schools are fine as is and we don't want the administrators packing .38s......just be observant and go on as is

of course not,however to say just let things be, is a mistake,it;s like the stop sign that is put up after someone is killled,we need to put that sign up before someone is killed
and this problem we have in our Country, needs to be addressed now,not tomorrow.

An Armed Guard should be placed at the door of every school, Preferably a Veteran Soldier. Teachers and staff should be trained then implemented with the use of Tazer guns.

Other states have metal detectors that children have to go through and they have security handling the procedure. I also agree with schools should be locked down and a visitor visable on camera, show ID and state their business. Face it that is what this country has come to. We live in a different world.
I also believe that because a person is getting mental help, the person should not be labeled. It's a disease just like any other disease. Stop the stigmatism associated with mental illness and more people would get the help they need.

Think an armed gaurd at all schools is a great idea. I was talking to Mr. Crowly at Thompson and he was telling me how safe Thompson is. It only has 5 doors to the outside where as rogers has 90.

When you start to fortress up you have to ask if the benefits are worth the effort and consider the unintended consequences. Talk to kids about their responsibilities and lets start holding parents accountable for their children and not putting it all on the schools.

I know that leaving the doors to classrooms wide open at Underwood School should stop. I'm sure most of you know how Underwood is set up. Anyone can walk right into the rooms off the street in the summer. My kids do not go to that school anymore but when they did that always bothered me.

When I was in High School it was when 9/11 happened. I lived 5 miles away from New York and I watched the planes hit. After that our High School had metal detectors put in, security guards at the doors and would patrol the school during the day. They also would check your bags when you entered the school. My son attends a public school in Newport and is in the first grade. These young children have no idea when they are practicing a lock down. When we practiced lock downs, we would shut the lights off, close the blinds, lock the doors and get under a desk or huddle in the corner away from windows and doors. All the do at his school is lock the front door. Shouldn't it be locked all the time? They need to act on this and fast. Take alittle extra time out of your day and pretect our children. I know things like this don't always happen but it is better to be safe and say we did everything we could then be sorry and say we should have done more. On Friday afternoon there was a newport cop that stood across the stree from the school at dismissal. On monday morning during drop off because it was raining the cop stayed in his car down the block. What is he going to do? Monday afternoon and on there has been no cop. Stop talking about what you will do and do it now.

These comments are exactly what I meant by OVEREACTING.....we won't pay for a music teacher but want armed guards at all the doors.....next we will ask for bullet proff glass on the windows (he did shoot out the glass to get in)......Newport schools doors are locked, staff if trained and I don't thik patting down the students will do anything except to make the little ones scared......as for the cop Ashley what do you want him to do ???? Stop bloging and suggest something constructive

An armed security gaurd will make the kids feel at ease and safe. Why is that a bad thing.
