SOUND OFF: President Obama and the Democratic Convention
What did you think of Obama's speech and the convention? Will you vote for him in November?
President Barack Obama capped off the Democratic National Convention with a speech that highlighted his foreign policy wins, health care reform and immigration reform on Thursday night.
Over three nights, Democratic leaders took aim at Republican nominee, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and his running mate Congressman Paul Ryan. A number of Massachusetts Democrats spoke at the convention, including Gov. Deval Patrick, Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren and Senator John Kerry.
After last week's Republican National Conventon, we asked readers to tell us what they thought of the convention and Romney.
Now, we want to hear from you about the Democratic convention. What did you think of the president's speech?
Let us know in the comment section below.

Will not vote for him. He's very deceptive, a smoothie. I know of someone who went
to collect unemployment during census time and was told no, go and get trained to do
census work. After getting the training this person was never used for census work
and was told to sit and wait for a call. That kept the unemployment rate down at the
time which made it look better than it actually was especially if this was done with
hundreds or more people. Sneaky business on Obama's record.

Foreign policy wins ?!? No, he said within a small region, to quote "From Burma to Libya to South Sudan, we have advanced the rights and dignity of all human beings"
But America did not create the conflict in that part of the word, America did create the Indonesian occupation and ethnic cleansing of West Papua. What about the "rights and dignity" of the West Papuan people? Washington arranged the UN and Indonesian occupations of the colony - as a student in Indonesia, President Obama knows about the terror in West Papua and knows that he can get campaign donations if he befriends the USINDO.org and fcx.com lobby; has he?

I will vote for President Obama. His speech, as were many others that I heard, was excellent and covered many domestic and foreign issues. It appears to me that the preponderance of difficulties endured by governing bodies—local, state, and national—spring from the inability or unwillingness of so many elected officials to listen rather than hear, see rather than look, and think thoroughly about all sides of the many issues facing us. Unfortunately, these negatives too often trickle down to the people who should be best served by excellent leaders. In any event, let’s GOTV—vote in Tuesday’s Primary.

Considering the alternative I think you're making the right choice, on a range of issues I think Romney would be three steps backwards for America, but you are mistaken about the difficulties faced by federal government. The biggest threat has always been undue influence of business, and since World War Two that threat has been a reality with trans-national corporations like Bechtel and rest of the USINDO.org lobby exerting extensive influence over US and every other nation's foreign policy.
Good foreign policy makes the world safer and a more consistent level market place; but that is bad for the group Eisenhower described as having undue influence sought & unsought. The reason for Eisenhower's extraordinary warning? Four weeks earlier a man called Robert Lovett had advised President-elect Kennedy on the 'best' people to appoint..
Barack Obama is with little doubt the better of the two options on offer, but he like every President since WW-ii needs help which can only come from the American public to follow the "better angels" instead of the policies of "fear uncertainty and doubt". If you shine a light on FUD it disappears but until then it guides whomever it gets into its hold.

The convention as a whole was not very broad in scope, single themes aimed at the same old class warefare thing. John Kerry talking about a rich politician in MA who off shores jobs? How about him and his wife's yacht built in New Zealand, then they didn't want to dock in Newport cause of, oh yeah, that tax.
Michelle talking about rusted cars and tight shoes while they attend an elite law school. Bill Clinton's wagging finger ??
Then same platitudes and wishful thinking from the President. Reminded me of Jimmy Carter in that fireside speech begging for help, long gas lines, Iranian hostages and an Olympic boycott.

There are not gas lines, Iranian hostages and an Olympic boycott.....Obama has done a superlative job....in spite of the me first House and Senate.. exactly. Interesting how the Republican majority congress has an abysmal approval rating and will go down in history as overtly obstructionist yet people still think it's a good idea to give them the white house. This congress' behavior is disgusting and they should be ashamed of themselves. Not to mention the Republicans got us into this mess with Bush - but yeah, Obama can't fix it fast enough so let's give them another shot. Asinine.

Hi Bimbels - The topic is about the Dem Convention. But, since you digress to complain about the Republicans again, please remember a few facts, Their was a Democratic majority this first 2 years of the Obama administration. A number of major programs were passed and where are the shovels today? Of course we have to go back and blame everything on Bush 43, but recall it was the Democrats controlled the house in 2007 and covered up investigation inquiries into Fanny and Freddy that tipped the housing crises.
Ironic to say a single president, Bush ruined everything and a single president, Obama can't fix anything. Well, maybe not. Let's "lean forward"

First of all, I was responding to Robert Burke's post, which mentioned the congress. Second of all, most economists agree that we are out of the recession (or depression, depending on who you ask) and I'm sure it's NOT because of the congress AFTER the republicans took the majority. I'm happy Obama was able to do what he did before the dems lost the majority. And, I'm tired of republicans blaming the president when it suits them, but then blaming the congress when it suits them. Can't have it both ways. Bottom line is everything the current congress has done has been to try to keep Obama from winning a second term. Not rebuild the economy after Bush wrecked it. Which he DID.
bimbels

And to keep on topic, obviously I'm voting for Obama. Last election, if Romney had won the nomination I would have been ok with him being elected - today, he's been hijacked by the ultra right in his party and he's not the same man when he was governor of MA, and was a moderate.

A German doctor says 'That is nothing; we can take a lung out of one person, put it in another, and have him looking for work in four weeks.
The Russian doctor says 'In my country, medicine is so advanced that we can take half a heart out of one person, put it in another, and have them both looking for work in two weeks.'
An American doctor, not to be outdone, says 'You guys are way behind. We recently took a man with no brains out of Illinois, put him in the White House, and now half the country is looking for work.

Wake up America
The new breadwinner in the family..
An
emergency room physician told me that a woman in
her late 20's came to the ER today with her
8thpregnancy.
She told
the first doctor she saw: "My Mama told me that
I am the
breadwinner for the family." He asked
her to explain. She said that she can make
babies, and babies get money from the State for
the family. It goes like this:
The Grandma calls the Department of Child &
Family Services, and states that the unemployed
daughter is notcapable of caring for all of her kids.
DCFS agrees, and tells her the
children will need
to go into foster care.
The Grandma then
volunteers to be the foster
parent, and receives a check for
$1500 per child each month in
Illinois.
Total yearly income:
$144,000
tax-free and nobody
has to go to work!
In fact, they get more if there is no
husband/father/man in the home!
Not
to mention free healthcare (Medicaid),
plus a monthly card entitling them to
free groceries and a voucher for
250 free Obamaphone minutes each month.
This does not include WIC and other
welfare benefits...that they are "entitled" to.
Indeed, Grandma was correct
that her fertile daughter is the
"breadwinner"

"breadwinner"
for the family.
This is how the liberal
politicians spend our tax dollars. When this
generous program was invented in the '60s, the
Great Society architects forgot to craft
an end date...
and now we are hopelessly
overrun with people who vote only for those who
will continue to keep them on the dole....
No wonder our country is broke!
Worse, the Muslims have been paying attention,
and by mandating that each Muslim family have
eleven children, they will soon replace the voting
bloc above and can be running this country
within 25 years. Read the above again,
until it sinks in, and then ask yourself if
your Children, Grandchildren, and
Great Grandchildren will survive these
severe changes to America!!!
Are You alarmed yet? Is anybody listening?
Is this a GREAT COUNTRY or
what...?
Don't forget to pay yourtaxes!
There are a lot of "breadwinners"
depending on you!

Hmmmm .... I turned off the DNC. Much too negative. We severely lack leadership. Right or wrong, when McChrystal handed the President his resignation, he did so because the President no longer had confidence in his General. Leaders are not problem creators, they are problem solvers. We need leaders at all levels of society. Too much hatred. We lack the moral compass. My goodness, how do you compare Condi Rice to a Georgetown Law Graduate when wants my tax $$ to pay for her birth control? Recenty my business has hit tough times. I had to cash out some IRA money and pay the 10% early withdraw penalty. To pay for birth control ... Instead of $500 million wasted on some energy company, imagine helping thousands of home owners that can't refinance because the banks that we bailed out won't even consider our request? Leadership solves problems, not creates them. When Reagan fired the Patco strikers, he lead, then solved the problem. Let's fire those that can't do the job they were sent to do. The Senate hasn't passed a budget in 3 years, fire them all and start with a new Senate. I see very little leadership from this President ... he's made it very clear that he is a Democrat President. When I voted for him in 2008, I bevieved he would be OUR President. Fool me once ... but not twice.

Anyone that thinks that decades of poor fiscal decisions from both Democrats and Republicans can be eradicated in two years automatically removes themselves from the conversation. I watched both conventions and it's quite clear that the DNC contained far better speakers, far more facts, and far more ideas. The RNC always talks about cutting this and that but never seem to cut anything that would ever actually do anything to make a change and therefore is ineffective governance for the country. Globalism changed the world particularly over the past 15 years and it will take the US time to put itself back in the game and it's clear that things are turning are slowly turning in the right direction but it will take time. Lets be honest at the end of the day both parties are going to be protected, get paid, and their are big businesses (obviously this applies more to the Republicans but not an extreme amount) lining their pockets against the average american citizen. Honestly I'd like to see third party candidates in some form of convention as I think the key to resolving larger issues is stripping both parties of their dominance on America as well as pulling the big money from business from both parties. As far as RI in particular is concerned a lot of the politicians have always seemed corrupt to me since I've moved here. BTW Michael if you thought the DNC was negative don't ever watch the RNC :-) it's just full of false truths, finger pointing, and general anger.

you are so inbred into the democratic thinking that you can't even comprehend that there are others out there that can think for themselves.
1. i am not a republican but a independently thinking man. is the perfect man running, no, but obama has no credibility with me.
to name just a few: bill ayers, the terrorist, rev wright (the biggest racists, who makes a living from it),
2. even bill clinton, before obama paid him off, made fun of obama.
3. as far as me making a racist remark. get over it. every time you say something negative, people call you a racist. personally i don't care anymore.
obama got into harvard and other colleges because of affirmative action, because in his own words he was a drunk in his highschool years, so his grades could not have been that good. and why did obama spend millions to seal his college records. THE ONLY TIME ONE SEALS RECORDS IS TO HIDE SOMETHING.
bimbels, i usually don't respond to idiots and/or people with a low iq, which is required to believe that obama has achieved anything positive in his 4 years.
now he claims he needs 4 more years. unemployment is at an all time high,
first of all the numbers i am sure are rigged and are a lot worst.
the corporations are doing well because they are running lean and found out they can, but because a corporation is doing well does not mean the country is doing well, not with all those unemployed.

Pferd you seem to be extremely hostile but with only partial facts and generally just bimbels isn't worshipping each democrat of the party. Yes the health care policy isn't perfect far from it (it would have been better if the democrats had really fought for a single payer model which would have been better) and the negotiated down to a public payer option (if republicans had any interest in not just blocking the president and actually wanted to work with him). Simpson Bolles was the negotiation Republicans wouldn't sign on and neither would far left liberals. Regardless some people who don't have coverage will have it finally but it didn't solve the problem of massive funds going to insurance and pharmaceutical companies. Can't confirm or deny your statement on bush with Tarp funds going to auto companies most likely accurate though as fiscal policy typically takes a long time and he was becoming a lame duck president around that time. Russia & China were far more like communism for the people but dictators at the top not real socialists. Honestly Socialism never left in fact many of the more financially stable and successful countries have a socialist model or context. Look at the Nordic model or Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and the exception that was hurt was Iceland and that was actually due to the Privitization of their banks (yes private companies annihilated no it's not an attack on business it's just a statement of facts). The point is socialism isn't dead
