Ronzio Owner Arrested for Allegedly Selling Pot in Pizza Boxes
Manuel Pereira, of East Providence, was arrested Thursday under suspicion of selling marijuana out of his restaurant, Ronzio Pizza and Subs, on Broadway.
The owner of the Broadway location of Ronzio Pizza and Subs was arrested by Newport police Thursday night and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver. The investigation is ongoing.
Manual Pereira, 38, is from 49 Metacomet Ave., East Providence.
Over the past month, the Newport Police have made “several controlled marijuana purchases” from Ronzio, said Sgt. Anthony J. Chauvin of the Vice and Narcotics Unit in an earlier release. Undercover investigators paid for the marijuana and received it in a pizza box along with their pizza.
According to police reports, the Vice and Narcotics unit executed a search warrant of Ronzio's around 6:25 p.m. Thursday. Pereira agreed to cooperate and led police to the basement, where they discovered two bags of marijuana and a scale. The four ounces of marijuana was worth approximately $1,000. They also seized $1,266 in cash, a security system and monitor, as well as a 2003 Mazda, which Pereira used to transport and sell the drugs.
Reports say Pereira admitted to selling marijuana out of Ronzio over the past eight to nine months to help with his income.
When police conducted an inventory of the seized cash, they say they found three bills with serial numbers matching the bills used during the staged drug deals.
