Readers' Choice: Nominate Your Favorite Coffee Shop

Nominate your go-to place for coffee in the comments; they may be voted a Readers' Choice later this summer.

If it's near and dear to your heart, Patch wants to know—tell us about the area's best coffee shop.

Nominate your favorite coffee shop in the comments below. Once you do, Patch will officially add them to the running for best of the best—and later this summer, they may beat out the competition to become the number one Readers' Choice.

We will take nominations through July 9; voting begins July 23.

Mokka coffeehouse is a joke. Cocky employees and they open way too late and have been closed the last few times I went by. My nomination is People's Cafe.

Heather- I think you are confusing Mokka Coffeehouse with another coffeeshop! I live in the area and frequent often. Just put your vote in, why knock a family run business? So since you wanted to get into it here you go..."Employees are cocky" ? 99% of the time the owner is behind the counter and he is great! I've seen him sit down with customers when it's slow and draw on a map everywhere they had to go. Open way too late? They open at 8am, but I've walked by at 7am and have gone in. Their motto is if door is lights are on, coffee is brewing. You forgot to point out that they are open to almost 9pm most weekend nights. So my point, put your vote in. Let other people make their opinions of what Mokka is. No matter what we should all be supporting every local place we can, let's keep buildings full and people employed, that is not a joke!

Ryan-Why is it OK for your boss to knock a local business with his review of a local restaurant but Heather can't? She is stating her opinion and I appreciate it.

Hi Eddie- I respect her opinion, your opinion, everyone's opinion...it's ok to share it but it's also ok to challenge the honesty and facts and share yours in return. That's the beauty of this all. BUT the instructions above state "Nominate your favorite coffee shop in the comments below." not persuade people not to go to a place in a voting poll. Hope my explanation is understandable. Thanks for reply sir.

Dear Mr. Towner, Thank you for following my blog, I hope you find it entertaining. Yes, sadly, some of my customers were giant A-holes and as I stated, they know who they are. I can tell you are one of them by your thinking that posting this link would somehow hurt me or my business. I am doing very well here in Newport if you were concerned and maybe we could discuss things in a different forum than this at some point. Call me, I'm sure you Googled my phone number also. Love, jack

Jack, just the fact that you have the cojones to call an A-hole and A-hole is refreshing. I'm gonna stop by today and check out MOKKA.

Somethings Fishy

I'm sure every successful business has stood the test of time by degrading their customers in a public forum. It really does take "cojones" to play the name calling game on the internet. Enjoy the summer while the tourists are here.

And, somethings fishy, I'm the only one using my real name here. I'm not degrading my customers, I'm just calling a duck a duck. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I have been harrassed to my limit. I only want to spend my energy taking care of the people that want what I have to offer and not the people that are just out to have someone give them what they think they are owed.

Gotta be Mokka, where a coffee is actually a coffee, and not some Venti, non-fat, vanilla soy, double shot, no foam, extra hot, light whip, upside-down, heavy whip-cream, 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg sprinkled on top, with light cinnamon dusted on, stirred, with no lid, double cupped, and a straw.

Also try the Lebanese lemonade, it's awesome on a hot summer day!

Love Mokka, and the Corey family. Great coffee shop, relaxed vibe, delicious bevs and snacks. Can't wait to get my ice coffee. Now, to decide: Sit inside and enjoy the chill atmosphere or relax on the patio? Hmm...

Gwen, the voting has started. Go to the patch page and find the voting area for the new link. Just so you know I love Empire also but sadly have to vote for my own place. Stop buy and I'll buy you a coffee regardless of which way your vote goes. jack

It seems most of those supporting Mokka are either family or made up names and likely family members. I noted on the FB page comments so disparaging about customers, I was shocked. Many have since been removed but I don't want to go somewhere to then find the owner put me down on FB!

Not family member, employee, or supplier of Mokka nor am I getting free coffee, coupons, breakfast, or back rubs. Also although I'm adopted my name is not made up. Just a Mokka Customer who love's great coffee, great service, and supporting local!
