Cranston Police conducted a weapons search at during a lockdown at Cranston High School East this morning after one student reportedly heard two others make mention of a gun.

Cranston Police Chief Marco Palombo Jr. said the incident unfolded around 10:40 a.m. and no weapons were found.

Police said the student who overheard the comment about a gun sent a text message to a parent, who then contacted school officials.

"The school administration worked very quickly and closely with Cranston Police School Resource Officer Matthew Davis, and the students who were believed to be involved were quickly removed from class to be questioned," Palombo said. "The investigation included the questioning of three 16-year-old students and a search of their lockers and backpacks."

School administrators secured all of the rooms that any of the students had been in during the day so they could be searched. A canine officer arrived at the school with a dog trained in firearms detection to help in the search. 

The three students believed to be involved in the incident were questioned and released to their parents.
