OMGPD: Painful Arrest, Door-buster
Take a look at some of the more intriguing police reports from around the state. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Starting The New Year in the Wrong Direction
One Pawtucket man has started off 2013 in the wrong direction – literally. At about 1:54 a.m. on New Year’s Day, police pulled over the 27-year-old man after he was spotted driving the wrong way on a Woonsocket street. The man said he was unfamiliar with the roads, but police believe there was another factor in his poor sense of direction after they reportedly smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Oh, and the beer bottles on the floor of his car didn’t help his case either. He allegedly failed his field sobriety test.
A New Definition of ‘Pop’
Patience is a virtue that one Woonsocket woman hasn’t learned yet. Police received several calls of a woman screaming and banging on the windows of a convenience store early in the morning before the store even opened. When officers arrived, she reportedly became hostile and told them she doesn’t like police, even allegedly telling them she’d “pop” them if they touched her. Unsure of what “pop” meant, police asked the 29-year-old woman to stop reaching into her purse and pockets, which she ignored. Police soon learned what “pop” meant when they attempted to frisk her: the woman responded by grabbing on to a railing and mule-kicking an officer in the groin. She continued to struggle until police pepper-sprayed her. She was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, simple assault and resisting arrest.
That’s One Way to Open a Door
We’re not sure if this man had a tragic experience involving a door in his youth, but one East Providence teenager really seems to hate doors. EP Police responded to the teen’s home after his father called to report a disturbance. According to the father, his 19-year-old son was punching doors. It wasn’t the first time the young man had taken out his rage on a door. His father said he had punched about 35 doors in the past few years. Kudos to the father for keeping count.
You Can’t Hide For Long
A 31-year-old Newport man who slipped past officers was only able to elude his arrest for a month before officers finally nabbed him this past week. On Dec. 1, the police were in the process of arresting the man on charges of driving without a license when he allegedly fled from the scene. An officer pursued him on foot and followed him into a condominium complex where the man’s girlfriend lives. When officers got to the woman’s apartment, she refused to answer the door. Once police got into the apartment, the man was gone. It appeared the back window of the condo had been opened. Right before the end of the year, police finally caught and arrested the man.

It's to bad when a local web site puts all the bad news and police reports at the heading of the site page.Newport patch really needs to go out and do some real reporting of the good life Newport has to offer,life in Newport and stop pushing all the bad things, not a good way to promote our community.Alot of business already stated to me that is why they don't post there business on this site?

In the summertime Newport should have "nightcourt",if you have lived in Newport long enough to remember when Drew Bledsoe was cited for an open container,you would retract your statement.Oh yeah lookup the fine on a 2nd noise-ordinance violation?The adage stands"Newport,come on Vacation,leave on Probation.And I only know one Dale Clark,and he is not even a Newporter by birth!

Come on Dale; They rotate the main Stories and such, have a lot of local feel good stories, hard news and helpful ones. Not to mention anyone is allowed to write your own blog article on the patch if you wish.
Why people rag on the editors all the time for doing their job is beyond me. Do you tear out the stories from the daily news before you read the paper and put on blinders when you watch the news on tv to only see good news. no offence.
I doubt your business statement as a business advertises where it can reach the most people and only a local business run by a fool would not advertise on a local site in this day and age. Putting up the same police blotter that every media organization does is only prudent to compete as all media does it.
I would rather know what crimes are being done in my community so Ican be on the look out should I be in those area's.
By the way this is not a local "web site". It is a part of an International conglomorate known as AOL/Huffington Post. No site I know of post only good news or any media outet that I know of. I hope you are not saying people are boycotting a business because they want to decide what they can and cannot do. That is wrong and borders on tyranny in my opinion. It only hurts the workers any way, not the corperation when it is a large company. Just saying ;-}

All the more reason one should not post the bad news as the lead story everyone in the country who gets this says we will passs Newport by and go up the cost more thats why most of them come here to excape crime.Yes there are venders who won't place ads on here because they seem to run these crime storys as there lead article-blog up front.I use to own Editor in Chief of a seven-county paper if you want to promote business you don't air one's dirty laundry as your lead blog.

Dale-Be careful, as you have written a post that does not agree with Jack Baillargeron, a.k.a. King of the Patch.
No matter what you post Dale, if Jack is against it, he's going to take you to task, and take you to task in a big way. And don't think you'll get a word in edgewise against Jack, as he's a retired insomniac with no job, no life, and 24 hours per day to sit in front of the computer.

Dale it’s not all over the Country, it’s only on this Newport page unless and Editor Crosslinks the Story to their own local page. You have to come to this Patch Page to see it, and every Patch page has this just like every newspaper does and millions of web sites.
If you think tourist will pass by because of these police blotter reports, Newport would have been a ghost town long time ago. Crime and muggings are way up in Newport.
Do you believe people who travel do not have the brains to look up criminal activity where they are going so they can avoid those areas of a city of town?
"Own Editor in Chief" how do you do that. What is the name of this paper and Seven Counties where crime was nonexistent and tourist only read the front page. No-one visits NY City, Boston, etc, by your theory. This has been going on since old Ben Franklin's brother Started the first paper in Newport by the way.
What Newspaper or Blog did not have "sandy hook" lead story. Is that dirty laundry? Will all tourists now avoid that town? Sorry I can't buy your theory. I do think tourist would avoid a town or city that is like a "Russia of Old" where information is secret and the masses are uniformed. Still think your being awful petty any way. Guess you didn't live in Newport when it was a Navy Town? Dirty laundry was in public eye 24 hours a day. Still had tourist then also. Just saying ;-}

All I'm saying is its not a great idea to flant crime as the leading blog.Theres so much more to report on then this kinda activity...And even most papers don't put crime on the front page unless they have bad reporting.It gives the island a bad rap.

Still fail to see your point on it. Do you expect every media outlet to hide what is going on in their area? What newspapers do you read that do not put crime on the front page? Would you perfer a serial killer in the area be a 50 word column next to the funny pages.
How about a violent woman beater who lives 2 houses away or 4 knock down muddings on your street. Lets not forget cars being stolen in your neighborhood, or house breakin's. How about if you have children and a dog down the street has attacked and killed another dog. Would you not wantto know that so you can be watchful for your children. These and examples I could go on forever with.
In the end like I said the first time is they rotate the front page story in order to get your attention to read more of what ever is posted. Thats not bad reporting it is merely reorting and it is up to the reader if they want to read it. No way anything like that is going to close businesses down because someone was arrested for punching doors and the father kept track of it.
Bad reporting to me is not reporting anything. What the point of having any kind of media if it is not going to report everything, good bad or indifferent. Kinda like free speech. You can say what you want; some people may like it and others may not, but think about what it would be like if you didn't have it and others decided what you could and could not say or hear. I think you know where I am going with that ;-}

Oh forgot to point out that it is not the lead story on the front page any more it is now rotated to the news section ;-}.
On another note, some of the strange ones where people are not hurt are just plain funny. Speaking of those moment we call the darwin awards lol. Lets face it a lot of humans are not the brightest bulbs on the planet by a long shot, better to know they exist then not. It makes life interesting.
Should have been here in the 60's when it was a Navy town, you would have probably flipped out on the front page stories back then, not to mention non stop stories of Nam to depress you every single day as you read about friends, family and high school comrades who died there every day. Didn't care for it, but in the end that is what made the people finally put a stop to that damn war.

Jack-Wouldn't have it been a lot easier for you to just tell Dale in one sentence that you did not agree with him? Why is it that you have to turn every story into a 5,000 word dissertation about every aspect of your life
While you might be fortunate enough to sit at home 24/7 boring the readers with every detail of your life, waiting for your pension check to arrive, not everyone is that fortunate. Please give the readers a break Jack.
