Newport Woman Sent to Hospital After Vehicle Strikes FedEx Truck
The driver's medical condition is unknown at this time. She is currently being treated at Rhode Island Hospital.
A Newport woman sustained significant injuries after a vehicle crash involving a FedEx truck happened Wednesday afternoon on East Main Road.
Portsmouth Rescue was called to a vehicle crash on East Main Rod, north of Stub Toe Lane around 3:18 p.m., according to Capt. Michael O'Brien, public information officer for the Portsmouth Fire Department.
A vehicle struck a FedEx truck in the rear, O'Brien said. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old Newport woman, was transported by ambulance to Newport Hospital and later to Rhode Island Hospital.
A spokesperson for Rhode Island Hospital said the woman was being treated at the hospital, but her medical condition was not available at this time.
The FedEx truck driver was transported by Middletown Rescue to Newport Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Due to other emergency calls at the same time, Middletown Rescue responded as mutual aid.
