Newport Police Log: Two Assault Arrests, Noise Violation
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
A 15-year-old Providence girl was arrested around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, for three simple assault charges.
Reports said the girl’s mother was on the phone trying to locate her, as she had been missing from her group home since Monday, when she came inside. Her mother said she threw the phone and then the two got into a physical argument.
Her mother and a neighbor restrained the girl until police arrived. She also reportedly kicked an officer.
She was arrested and taken to the Rhode Island training school for girls.
Assault arrest
Luis Moura, 42, of Newport, was arrested around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, for a domestic simple assault charge.
According to reports, police located Moura in a Chapel Street residence and appeared to be drunk.
The victim told police Moura had been drinking and the two got into an argument when she told him to leave.
She left and called police when he reportedly threatened her with a lamp.
Noise violation
Kaitlyn J. Birrell, 21, of 82 Nottingham Dr., Scituate, was cited around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, for a noise violation.
