Newport Police Log: Two Arrested for Shoplifting, Teen Gives Fake Name
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Kostadin Kobakov, 21, and Zarko Kokudev, 21, both of 35 Third St., Newport, were arrested around 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, for shoplifting charges.
Police were dispatched for a report of Walmart security guards chasing two men through the garden center.
During a search, police found flip flops, cheese, lunch meat, eggs, ice cream and candy in both of their backpacks. The two admitted to taking the items from Walmart, reports said.
Teen arrested for giving police fake name
Khaleel S. Mills, 18, of 22 Newport Ave., Newport, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, for obstructing an officer and a family court warrant.
Police pulled a car over with Mills in the passenger seat. He reportedly told police that his name was Malik and that he was 17, but had no identification.
Reports said that while police were talking to Mills, he gave a birthday that indicated he was 20, but then said he was 19.
Due to the discrepancy in his age, police placed him under arrest. He eventually admitted his real age and name.
Warrant arrests
- Joseph C. Coite, 46, of 3 Beacon Court, Newport, was arrested around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, for an active warrant.
- Alan A. Costa, 46, of 175 Massachusetts Blvd., Portsmouth, was arrested around 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, for an active warrant.
