Newport Police Log: Teen Arrested for Pot Possession; Shoplifting Arrest

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

A 15-year-old Newport boy was arrested around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, for a first-offense possession of marijuana charge.

Police were dispatched to his home after a report from his mother that she had found marijuana in his room.

The boy's mother told police he had been using marijuana since he was 11 years old. Police seized 27 grams of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

According to reports, police suspected the boy had been selling the marijuana as well.

Man arrested for three shoplifting charges

Dennis M. Ryan, 19, of 140 Van Zandt, Newport, was arrested around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, for three shoplifting charges.

A security officer told police Ryan had attempted to take $47.32 worth of jewelry. Ryan also admited to stealing the phone he had on him from Walmart, valued at $150, earlier this week. He also said he stole and sold a Droid.

Security officers also had surveillance video of Ryan taking a comforter, valued at about $45, on a separate occasion. Ryan said he not longer had the comforter.
