Newport Police Log: Stolen Baby Formula; Two Assault Arrests

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

Francisco M. Aponte, 28, of Newport, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, for domestic simple assault and violating a no contact order charges.

Police were dispatched to a Newport Green apartment for a report of a man being cut in the face by a knife.

Aponte told police he and his wife had been in an argument and she cut him in the face with a kitchen knife. Reports said Aponte had cuts on his face, but that it looked like it had come from being scratched by fingernails.

When police located the victim, she told them they had been in an argument and Aponte had grabbed her and she scratched him in the face. She also told police she never attacked him with a knife.  

Man charged with stealing baby formula

Fernando A. Torres, Jr., 23, of 107 Abbot St., Providence, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, for a shoplifting charge.

Police were dispatched to Walmart for the shoplifting report. According to the security officer, Torres put 20 cans of Enfamil powder into Walmart bags and walked out of the store.

The items totalled $309.

Assault arrest

  • Kendall L. Moreino, 18, of Newport, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 22, for a domestic simple assault charge.
