Newport Police Log: Shoplifting, Protective Order Arrests
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Virna Osorio, 21, and Madelyn Osorio, 41, both of 90 Girard Ave., Newport, were arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, for shoplifting charges.
Police were dispatched to TJ Maxx after the two women were suspected of shoplifting. According to the loss prevention officer they concealed perfume, lingerie, toddler clothing and a jacket.
The merchandise totalled more than $80 and was recovered by police.
Man charged with violating protective order
James J. Watterson, 65, of 357 Gibbs Ave., Newport, was arrested around 3 p.m. for a violating a protective order charge.
According to the women who had the protective order against Watterson, he was knocking on the door and trying to get in. Watterson fled just before police arrived, reports said.
Police located Watterson, who said he went over to the house to retrieve his belongings.
