Kathleen M. Lemler, 46, of 35 Thurston Ave., Newport, was cited around 9:19 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, for an open buring violation.

Police and the Newport Fire Department responded to Lemler’s address for a reported fire burning in her yard. Firefighters were on scene to extinguish the fire, which was in an enclosed pit.

Fire officials said they had been receiving several complaints from resident have fires in the yard, reports said.

Woman charged for scratching woman's face 

Tylee M. Perry, 44, of Newport, was arrested around 12:06 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, for a fighting charge.

Perry was suspected of scratching another woman in the face last April at 15 Meeting Street during an argument over a washing machine.

A witness to the incident confirmed the victim’s story that Perry scratched her.

Perry reportedly admitted to scratching the victim,  but told police the fight was mutual.

Other arrests

• Darren L. Weldon, 21, of 24 Bartlett Rd., Middletown, was arrested around 1:35 a.m. on Monday, July 9, for a fighting charge.
• Kevin D. Anderson, 30, of 1 Cathy Circle, Portsmouth, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, for a fighting charge.
