Newport Police Log: Man Tried to Sell Gun on Bus
The following information was provided by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Nicholas M. Tucci, 31, of 178 Briggs, Providence, was arrested at 5:25 p.m. on May 22 for a prohibited weapons charge.
Police were dispatched for a man alegedly attempting to sell a handgun on a RIPTA bus. According to reports, a witness said she was on the bus when Tucci pulled out a gun wrapped in a black and white bandana and tried to sell it to people on the bus.
Police stopped Tucci on Broadway and reportedly found a black pellet gun in his jacket. The gun had four rounds of plastic pellets in it.
Cranston man arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot
Christopher J. Grieco, 39, of Legion Way, Cranston, was arrested around 10:45 a.m. on May 22, for a disorderly threats charge.
Police were dispatched to Segway of Newport for a report of a disorderly man. When they arrived, a Gary’s Handy Lunch employee also said she wanted to file a report against Grieco. She told police he had been in the restaurant 10 minutes before and was rambling about how he had a gun and was going to shoot someone. Segway employees reported Grieco saying similar things.
Segway employees had asked Grieco to leave several times when he kept asking to see one of their employees.
Reports said the incident was the ninth time in five days police have dealt with Grieco since his release from the Newport courthouse. Earlier that day, police had been called for Grieco making motions like he had a gun and was shooting random people on the street.
The above reports detail arrests made by the Newport Police Department. Descriptions of all events are based solely on police officer reports provided to Patch.

Both these stories goes to prove that once in a while you see the moron factor being applied. Only a moron would try to sell a gun to the open public illegally. The second is only a moron would claim to have a weapon in public and threaten to use it. It reminds me a few years back when that former Brockton Ma. police officer brandished his concealed weapon at Christies or what Christies is now at some of the employees. He now is in jail. 99% of gun owners are law abiding and responsible, however the remaining 1% seem to always partake in moronic behavior and ruin it for everyone.

If all of those gun owners are so responsible, then why have 38,000 people have been shot so far this year?

@nptresident- Because most of those so called gun owners you are talking about own guns illegally. Crimes are committed mostly with illegal weapons. I'm talking about legal, law abiding gun owners.

I figured that would be the response.

Npt resident I have owen several guns all my life and I have never shot anyone. Do you own a car 2.9 million people are injured and 42,000 people killed by car each year. I've thought for a while that the comparisons between guns and cars would make a good argument for sensible gun laws. Both can be safe when used responsibly but deadly when used carelessly or with criminal intent. As a society we accept the inherent danger of cars, I don't think I've ever seen anyone propose banning them because of the number of deaths they cause, but some people who are rational about vehicles can get very emotional about guns being too dangerous for anyone to own.
Fun Fact: according to the FBI, the #1 weapon used in violent crimes is the baseball bat.

@nptresident- Let me reply to you by saying that a 2004 DOJ study found that 79% of all gun related crimes were committed by criminals who obtained a weapon illegally. Now I know that the particuliar study was done 8 years ago, but I'm sure those stats have not changed much. So it just gives validity to my statement, that the figure of 38,000 that you yourself cite(given that the majority happened via some type of gun related crime) are caused by illegal gun ownership. Here is my second response to your statement, that if you yourself were put into a situation, whereby you or some family members life was put in danger by a criminal? I can guarantee you 110% that you would use a gun to defend yourself or defend others if it came down to a life and death situation. You would not give it a second thought to debate yourself if you were going to offend the perps rights or contribute to gun violence. You would pull the trigger. That is where every Liberal argument about gun control/ownership is flawed.

@nptresident- just in case you were wondering about calling the cops in regards to a crime taking place? Average response times nationally range from 5-12 minutes. When your life is in danger? 5-12 minutes can be like a life time. I'll take my legally owned weapon to stop the perp rather than the risk of the 5-12 minutes for help to arrive.
