Newport Police Log: Man Charged with Selling Heroin; Watch Pawner Arrested

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

Ricky Henault, 49, of 678 Providence St., West Warwick, was arrested around 12:05 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, for a drug distribution charge.

Henault was arrested after selling 50 bags of heroin to an undercover Newport police officer at the Citgo on J.T. Connell Highway.

The undercover operation was set up after police received information that someone had been selling heroin in the Newport area.

Police arrest man accused of pawning $900 watch

Zachary Sears, 20, of 36 First School St., Bristol, was arrested around 12:53 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, for an active warrant for a receiving stolen goods charge.

Last July, the Middletown Police Department received a complaint from a man reporting a missing $900 watch.

Police located the watch at Fall River Pawn Brokers in Newport. 

Sears admitted to stealing the watch in a text message to the man. Sears was his daughter's ex-boyfriend, reports said.

Teen caught shoplifting more than a dozen items

A 17-year-old Newport boy was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, for a shoplifting charge.

According to the security officer at Walmart, the boy was caught trying to shoplift several DVDs, Monster energy drinks, a headphone set, a wall charger, a wallet, and leather gloves.

The items totaled about $174.
