Newport Police Log: Man Charged Vandalism, Threats, Breaking and Entering

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nikia Hernandez, 31, of no permanent address, was arrested around 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, for domestic vandalism, disorderly conduct, threats, attempted breaking entering charges and an active warrant. The warrant was for failure to appear in court.

Police were dispatched to a Van Zandt Avenue apartment for a report that Hernandez had broken a window and tried to go inside.

During questioning, Hernandez said he did not know how the window was broken.

The woman who lived inside, Hernandez's ex-girlfriend, said he was yelling from outside. When she told him she was going to call the police, Hernandez allegedly took out a knife and yelled, “Go ahead, call the cops.”

He then reportedly struck and broke the window. He did not gain entry into the apartment.

The above reports detail arrests made by the Newport Police Department. Descriptions of all events are based solely on police officer reports provided to Patch.
