Newport Police Log: Man Charged for Exposing Himself at 7-11

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

James L. Coppa, 49, of 20 Chapel St., Newport, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, for a second-offense indecent exposure charge.

Police were dispatched to the 7-11 on Memorial Boulevard for a report of a man exposing himself to the clerk. He was sitting on the window sill in front of the store when police arrived and appeared to be drunk, reports said.

Coppa told police he was “hanging out and buying food.”

The woman who was working inside identified Coppa as the man who came in, asked where the Hershey’s were, and exposed himself while he was walking down the aisle.

The woman said the man had an erection and made no effort to cover himself as he walked back towards her. She told him to leave and called police.
