Newport Police Log: Man Charged for Assault Against Nurse, Stolen Cell Phone Arrest
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Edward Garofalo, 44, of 60 Warner St., Newport, was arrested around 12:39 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, for assault on a health care personnel and assault on a person over 60 charge.
Police were dispatched to the emergency room at Newport Hospital for a report of a man assaulting a nurse.
The nurse told police Garofalo had knocked her over and tried to hit her.
Garofalo had been arrested on Wednesday for a threats charge.
Woman arrested over reportedly stolen cell phone
Nakisha Wright, 31, of 143 Third St., Newport, was arrested around 10:22 a.m. on Thursday, Aug, for a receiving stolen goods charge.
A cell phone was reported lost on a RIPTA bus. When police called the number a woman picked up, but would not identify herself.
Police located Wright, who said she had borrowed the phone at a bus stop from a stranger.
Other arrests
- Nelson E. Sanchez, 18, of 41 West Evans St., Newport, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, for an active warrant.
- Jennifer Cruz, 18, of Newport, was arrested around 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, for a domestic assault charge.
