Newport Police Log: Group Arrested on Slew of Charges; Vandalism, Threats Arrests
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
A group of four men were arrested and cited shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning after an altercation with police.
George Cedeno, 36, of 28 Linlew Dr., Derry, NH, was arrested for two simple assault charges and resisting arrest.
Richard Savastano, 41, of 42 Washington St., Natick, MA, was arrested for disorderly conduct, simple assault and resisting arrest charges.
Patel Kushal, 36, of 323 Salem St., Andover, MA, was arrested for obstructing a a road and resisting arrest.
Bruce W. Hall, 42, of 191 Plummer Hill Rd., Henniker, was cited for possession of alcohol in public.
Police were monitoring Gas Lamp Grille when the group of men walked by and were yelling at a woman who had been recently cited. Hall reportedly walked by holding a glass of alcohol. When police went over to cite him, the other men blocked the officers' path.
Reports said Savastano was acting aggressively and would not move out of the way for police. Patel also would not clear the area and was obstructing the road.
The group became physical with the officers, who had to call back to control the incident.
James E. Williams, 18, of Bristol, was arrested around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, for a domestic vandalism charge.
Williams' girlfriend reported him to police for kicking the side of her car, which caused a large dent. She told police Williams kicked the car while it was moving, with their 4-month-old inside.
During questioning, Williams said she provoked him and kicked the car because he was frustrated.
- Monika Borkowski, 20, of 4411 Chad Court, Ann Arbor, MI, was cited around 11:34 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, for an unlawful drinking charge.
- Erin Harris, 19, of 26 Ridgehill Rd., Scituate, was cited around 11:39 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, for an unlawful drinking charge.
- Kiril Popov, 22, of 35 Third St., Newport, was arrested around 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, for a shoplifting charge.
- Samuel W. Whitmire, 36, of 15 Meeting St., Newport, was arrested around 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, for disorderly threats and urinating in public charges. Reports said Whitmire urinated near the front of Yesterday's. When a man confronted him about it, he reportedly threatened to slit his throat.
