Newport Police Log: Gas Station Shoplifter; Alcohol Citation
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Lee F. Wells, 42, of 15 Meeting St., Newport, was arrested around 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, for a shoplifting charge.
Police were dispatched to the Thames Street Shell station for a shoplifting report.
The clerk told police Wells took two packs of cigarettes and a drink from the gas station without paying. Reports said the clerk went outside and took the bag from Wells before calling police.
Police located Wells after she left the scene and placed her under arrest.
Possession of alcohol in public
Michael S. Rader III, 25, of 18 Anthony St., Newport, was cited around 2:42 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, for possession of alcohol in public.
