Newport Police Log: DUI and Fraudulent Check Arrests

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Daniel J. Roach, 34, of 69 Williams St., Jamaica Plain, MA, was arrested around 2:54 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28 for second-offense DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test and license violation charges.

Police stopped Roach after he ran a red light and was swerving in the road, reports said.

Roach told police he had had one beer.

He reportedly failed the field sobriety rest and did not take the chemical test.

Woman charged for writing fraudulent check

Donna J. Parker, 27, of 1119 Green End Ave., Middletown, was arrested around 9:33 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, for a fraudulent checks charge.

On April 29, police was summoned at Stop & Shop. Reports said she purchased $100 gift cards and received $50 cash back with a personal check. The check was made out for $473.86 and was drawn from BankNewport.

Reports said the check was returned due to a closed account. When police called the bank, an employee said the account had been closed and Parker had changed addresses.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, Parker came to the police department and told police she did not know that the account was closed and that she wanted to make restitution.

The above reports detail arrests made by the Newport Police Department. Descriptions of all events are based solely on police officer reports provided to Patch.
