Newport Police Log: Argument Over Remote Leads to Domestic Assault Arrest
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Donnell Cole, 40, of Newport, was arrested around 8:35 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, for a domestic assault by strangulation charge.
On Tuesday, Cole turned himself in to police on an active warrant.
According to police reports, officers were dispatched to Cole's residence on Oct. 29 for a domestic assault.
The victim told police she and Cole had been in an argument over changing the channel. Cole had been watching a football game, and when the woman changed the channel he began strangling her, reports said.
The victim said she was unable to breathe during the assault and was having problems swallowing. She also had visible injuries on her face.
