Newport Police: DUI, Disturbing the Peace

The following information was provided by the Newport Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

William L. Freeman, 22, of 7 Bristol Rd., Middletown, was arrested around 10:40 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, for drug possession, DUI, and driving in possession of drugs charges.

Police reportedly saw Freeman driving on Malbone Road and then drive onto the lawn of the Newport Daily News property. The car reportedly went 75 to 100 feet down a hill in the lawn before going back onto the road.

Reports said Freeman then struck another vehicle stopped at a stop sign.

Police pulled Freeman over, who said he did not know what they were talking about when he was questioned about driving on the lawn.

Freeman reportedly admitted to drinking and failed the field sobriety test. Police allegedly found two small bags of crack cocaine under his seat.
