Middletown Teacher Has Rented a Room 'Many Times' Said Motel Staff

Patrick Aylward, a teacher at Middletown High School, is under investigation for a potentially inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old Middletown girl. Staff at an area motel said he has rented a room many times.

The 39-year-old Middletown High School teacher who allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old female student he is accused of having a relationship with at the Founder's Brook Motel, has rented a room at the same Portsmouth motel many times since last fall, said an employee of the motel

Patrick Aylward, of Fall River, has been placed on paid leave while Middletown police and school officials investigate the situation. The employee of Founder's Brook Motel, who wished to remain anonymous, said Alyward has rented a room many times, paid cash and said the room was for two people. Alyward always came into the front office alone, said the employee.

According to Portsmouth Police, Alyward got into an argument with the girl at the motel on Feb. 16 and allegedly headbutted her in the parking lot. Police said the girl had visible swelling on her forehead. He was charged with domestic assault.

The girl told police Alyward was occasionally violent with her, and had punched her in the stomach and threw a vase at her.

What a surprise, the public school teacher making $60k a year lives in Fall River, with just about every other public employee on Aquidenck Island. You get the taxpayers money and avoid paying the taxes!

Just another story about our wonderful public education system in Newport County.

Maybe if our public school system wasn't the most corrupt organization full of nepotism and a crony power structure, and maybe if getting a job as a teacher wasn't a guaranteed right for life, we wouldn't get so many scumbags.

There have been 4 teacher/student relationships at Rogers in the past 6 years.

Don't get wrong, there are some really good teachers. The problem is they would never point the finger at the bad teachers, because that would be "snitching" on your fellow Union member. You gotta support them no matter what, even if they do gross things like this. Its a pox on everyone.

I feel sorry for the girl's parents. Their tax money goes to pay this guy and they will be left to pay to clean up this mess.

Wow. That's some logic you got going there. Who cares where he lives? It's a free country. What relationships are you talking about? Throwing accusations is shameful. This is an isolated incident and has no bearing on any other school on Aquidneck Island. Middletown is handling the situation.

Where he lives is important because it's a case for no tolls on the Sakonnet bridge. Otherwise he'd spend less money over in Fall River.

Teaching is the best paid part time job in America!!!

That part time comment is so inaccurate-- as the child of a teacher I can attest the many MANY hours spend AT HOME doing report cards and grading papers and using PERSONAL money to buy supplies for the kids--I don't know what your issues are but your falsehood telling is at the forefront!

WHO CARES where he lives?? This article is about a teacher having sex with a student and the comments here focus on where he pays his taxes? Talk about messed up priorities.

Wake up people... It's a made up story told to the police... Doesn't mean it's true. Get a clue. What's the matter East side? Still upset because you don't work for a union? Haha!
