Man Charged in Ice Pick Stabbing
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
A Newport man was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly attacked someone with an ice pick early Saturday morning. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m.
Jamere M. Wilkins, 35, of Newport, was arrested around 8:20 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 and was also charged with domestic disorderly conduct, domestic simple assault and domestic breaking and entering.
Police were dispatched to the emergency room at Newport Hospital for a reported stabbing. The victim, a 41-year-old Boston man, had been stabbed repeatedly in the parking lot at Rolling Green apartments.
The woman who brought the victim to the hospital said the two of them had been at her apartment when Wilkins arrived. The woman had a restraining order against Wilkins.
Wilkins then reportedly started assaulting the victim and, during the assault, grabbed an ice pick. The victim ran away and made it outside to the parking lot before Wilkins caught up with him and began stabbing him with it, reports said.
The woman said she found the victim bleeding severely while Wilkins stood over him with the ice pick in his hand.
The victim also told police he ran from the apartment before he was stabbed multiple times.
He suffered multiple stab wounds to the stomach, back and groin, reports said.
The above reports detail arrests made by the Newport Police Department. Descriptions of all events are based solely on police officer reports provided to Patch.
