Man Arrested Two Days in a Row

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Scott Herrmann, 53, of an unknown address in Newport, was arrested Tuesday for the second day in a row. On Monday, police charged him with disorderly fighting after he allegedly caused a disturbance inside George’s Barber Shop on Broadway.

On Tuesday, he was charged with disorderly fighting, resisting legal arrest and simple assault after he came into the Newport police station. Police asked if he was there for his report, but said he was not there for police business and was swearing and shouting. Police said he shoved an officer with two hands and then violently resisted arrest.

  • Kupree Salley, 27, of 15 Meeting Street was arrested on domestic assault charges around 11:00 a.m.  Police said Salley grabbed his girlfriend by her face, threw her on the sofa while held her throat.

  • Two 19-year-old Portsmouth men were issued underage drinking summons after police were called to West Narragansett for a complaint they were throwing a beer cans at a fence.
