Man Allegedly Threatens to 'Drown' Officer

An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

The following arrests were made on Wednesday, April 17, as reported by the Newport Police Department.

Jeffrey Picard, 42, of 9 Evett Street was arrested around 2:40 a.m. on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Police said he was found passed out on the grass at Thompson Middle School. Police said he smelled of alcohol and when they asked if he was alright, he threatened and swore at officers, said police.

“I will drag you down forty steps and drown you,” he allegedly said to an officer. When police told him he would be arrested if he didn't stop the threats he allegedly said, “Meet me down at Ruggles...Take off your badge and let’s go.”

  • George Collazo, 35, of 15 Meeting Street was arrested at 4:00 p.m. on a shoplifting charge.  He allegedly tried to shoplift around $200 of DVDs from Walmart.

  • Joseph Maghuyop, 28, of 6 Woolsey Road, Middletown was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on a domestic vandalism charge.  Police said he got into an argument with his 21-year-old girlfriend at Easton’s Beach and smashed her phone.
