Man Allegedly Said He Would Kill Police With a Hammer

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Newport Police reported the following arrests for Monday, May 20

  • Timothy Dwyer, 50, of Burnside Avenue, was arrested around 11:20 a.m for making a false 911 call. Dwyer was already wanted by police for a violation of a no contact order, domestic vandalism and cyberstalking charges after an incident that occurred on Saturday. Police said Dwyer called 911 and said, “I have been stabbed in the chest” and “my girlfriend stabbed me.”  A witness told police Dwyer sat on the couch with a hammer and said he would kill any police officer that entered his apartment.

  • Lacey Johnson, 28, of 9 Stewart Street Apt. #B, was arrested around 1:16 p.m. on a bench warrant charge. 

  • Richard Welch, 38, of 12 Woolsey Road, Middletown was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on a bench warrant charge out of superior court. Police said they were called to the Motel 6 because Welch was screaming in his room. 

  • Matthew Nadeau, 35, of 90 Girard Avenue and a 15-year-old Newport teen were arrested around 9:29 a.m. on charges of receiving stolen goods after a Newport resident told police someone stole their grill.
