The tradition lives on as the Newport Lions Club annual carnival comes to Easton's Beach.

The annual Newport Lion's Club Carnival kicked off last night at a windy Easton's Beach to a dedicated crowd that spanned generations.

Walter Bennet, who brough along his son Bryan, 4, and best friend Ernest Smith, said they had been coming to the carnival since they were kids.

"They used to have a bear ride that we used to spin around as fast as we could," Smith said. "Those were the best days of my life."
