Have You Had a Missed Connection in Newport?

Have you missed out on a potential love in Newport? You might be surprised by where people are missing out in town.

 

Where are people spotting the potential love of their life in Rhode Island? You might be surprised. 

In the Ocean State, it appears parking lots (yes, parking lots...), are the most frequent "missed connections" location, according to a new map created by Pyschology Today and posted on BuzzFeed

In case you are unfamiliar with the term, a "missed connection" is simply a romantic glance or conversation, and missing the chance later to exchange contact information. The term and concept became popular after Craigslist began a "Missed Connections" section. 

So where are the missed connections happening in Newport? Well, there appears to be quite a few!

It IS creepy. Last time I looked, most of the "missed connections" in Newport were taking place in private booths at Newport Video.

This infographic is a piece of terrible, misleading, slip-shod statistical reporting. The sample size is absurdly small.(most recent 100 posts as of the creation of the graphic) and there is no indication of what number out of that total contributed to the "most frequent location" or even what those locations mean.

If 4 out of all 100 RI posts mentioned a "parking lot" in any context whatsoever, then that would come up as the "most frequent location" just because the words "parking lot" appeared in more posts than any other combination.

Doesn't take a genius to tell that this infographic has no meaningful interpretation to be had at all.
